The Adilette, once by a German newspaper affectionately called »the bogans` slide without a guilt«, was invented by Adi Dassler in 1972 as athletes request to be functional in both, the locker room and the shower. Not in his wildest dreams, he could have expected that an Adidas sandal would drop out of the Olympic athletes` sacred spaces to quickly conquer the saunas and campsites of the ordinary citizen world. They also took over sidewalks and garden plots of small German towns.
The Adilette merged with us Germans but ruined our reputation to our countries` neighbors by establishing a belief that we are on permanent holiday and just move from the couch to reach for sauerkraut and sausages. But now we are in the 21st century and believe that it has mastered the style crisis. With immediate effect, the Adilette is the right answer to Crocs and flip-flops - beat the original.
