That doesn’t mean you have to live with cold feet and wet socks, because all the sneaker brands have adapted to the fact that there is a great demand for sneakers even when the sun isn’t shining. There is an abundance of sneaker boots, winterized and waterproof sneaker silhouettes. Of course, the current outdoor trend also plays a role. Whether it is German roamers, urban explorers or just a walk in the woods, the trend is back to nature. But only with the right equipment!

Of course it is very important that the shoes look good. But especially in the dreary fall and winter months, it should be clear that this is not the only criterion. Shoes need to be comfortable if you’re going to be outside in the cold for a long time – but that’s also important in the summer. Sneakers for fall and winter should be waterproof. It is important that the shoes are as waterproof as possible, have durable uppers, are lined and have a good sole.

Waterproof Sneakers

As we get deeper into fall, the weather gets wetter. Whether you’re on your way to work or the gym, you can’t always avoid puddles and the like. You’ll soon find out where your sneakers are weak and you’ll end up with wet feet. Every time you step on damp or wet ground, water splashes up and slowly soaks into the upper material. This is usually at the front of the toe box. Depending on the nature of the material, this will happen more or less quickly. Waterproof upper

One thing has to be said up front – there is no such thing as a completely waterproof sneaker. Unless they are rubber boots 😉. Sneakers are more likely to be water resistant or rainproof. Basically, care is a crucial factor for all upper materials. Leather, for example, becomes brittle over time without the necessary care. It loses all of its positive properties. The more damaged and worn your sneakers are, the less you can rely on them. This is why you should use shoe polishes and sprays when necessary. This will simply make your winter sneakers more durable in the long run. Waterproof or water-repellent sneakers are usually made of leather, impregnated suede or Gore-Tex. But how does Gore-Tex work?

Lined Sneakers

When it gets colder outside, the warmer sneakers are dug out of the closet. We can also tell relatively quickly how warm or cold it is outside by the sneakers we are wearing. Some freezing people wear lined winter sneakers to work for the first time in the fall (and still complain that it’s too cold).

Of course, the upper material also plays an important role in lined sneakers. The extra “lining” is an extra layer of material designed to keep the heat inside the shoe. This only works as long as it doesn’t get wet. When it does, it has the opposite effect and the temperature will equalize more quickly with the environment. Your feet will get very cold very quickly.
As mentioned above, the goal of lined footwear is not to generate heat. The goal is not to lose heat. This is usually accomplished with a textile lining under the upper.
