For the third time in the history of the NFL, an official NFL regular season game took place on German soil. After the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins provided a mega-event last week, yesterday it was the turn for the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts. The first game in Frankfurt made it clear: Germany is in the mood for the NFL!

Unlike the last game, the stadium was open yesterday and the atmosphere was completely different. Thousands of American Football fans were out and about in Frankfurt days before kickoff to get in the mood for the game.
As with all international games, fans of all teams were present. However, the majority of the 50.144 fans in the stadium were there to cheer on the Patriots. It is no coincidence that the team from Foxborough has the largest fan base in Germany.Â
German athletes who love the American sport were also in attendance. German national team players Mats Hummels and Leon Goretzka even had the honor of attending the coin toss before the game.

Kickoff was at 3:30 p.m. CET, just like the last few games, and the Waldstadion was buzzing. The fans were motivated by all the pre-match events and the atmosphere was electric.Â
After the Patriots took the lead with a field goal, the Colts quickly took over and scored the first and only touchdown of the game through running back Jonathan Taylor.Â
The game was decided when Patriots quarterback Mac Jones threw an interception with just under 4 minutes left in the game. After another interception by backup quarterback Bailey Zappe, the Colts only needed kneel down to win the game.Â
Thanks to this win, the Indianapolis Colts still have a chance to make it to the playoffs!Â
Despite the loss of the Patriots, the atmosphere in the stadium was great as always! There was singing and even after the game the fans stayed in the stadium and enjoyed the atmosphere.
